Does this sound like a good bike? Good price? $3500 is about the most I want to spend. I still like the looks of the above one better. Maybe I should put a note on it...

No, that's a bit high and you want an 03+ (for VTEC)

VFR’s are good all-rounders. Kinda heavy and lethargic compared to a dedicated sport bike. You could, but likely wouldn’t, do track days on one of these.
They are great at eating up highway miles. Pretty comfortable compared to an actual sport bike. VTEC does kick in, YO, so that may take some getting used to. It’s sort of like - nothing.. nothing... nothing... POW! Hang on!
The price doesn’t get me too excited. $3500 for a 17 year old bike with 70k+ miles and evidence of crash. Also, this one is missing the factory integrated hard cases, which is sort of the appeal of this model.
VFR’s are good. I would hold out for a better one, if that’s what you want.

The mileage is super high, but good price if the miles were 1/3 - 1/2 of what they are.

As an owner of a 5th gen and someone who has ridden a 3rd (90-93)
4th
(94-97)
5th (98-01)
and 6th (02-10ish
???)
gen, each generation has something that it is better than the others on. I’ll keep my review to just the 5th and 6th so we are discussing FI bikes. As stated in another comment, you want to stay with later 6th gen bikes, as the first years with the VTEC were a learning curve. It has better options for bags and commuting, is slightly better in the forks and shock but weight is carried higher with the exhaust under the seat. Also the 6th gen looses the GDC’s that make these bikes very easy to work on. 5th gen bikes are simpler to work on, less complex overall and have better weight distribution
. If you can find a clean 98 or 99, you get the elusive catless headers that command serious money on the aftermarket. I would never blink at mileage on a VFR up to about 60 to 65, then over that as long as it is well taken care of, 100 to 150 is possible and has been done many times. Mine has 45k on it and has never had a major issue accept for a charging issue that is well documented on the web, and plagues both 5th and 6th gen bikes (6th gens slightly less).

There’s a PNW Honda tax on motorcycles - that seems pretty high given miles/age. Might be worth looking at Kawasaki/Yamaha. I mean that kind of money will get you in to a more gently used BMW cruiser or dual sport of similar vintage:
$2400, under 4K miles, ‘03 BMW F650CS:

Not related to bikes, but what roads around Seattle get snow in December/January but remain open?
I really want to try to put together an Oppo Snow Drive this winter, especially since it is all but confirmed I’m going to be a Subie owner

Not a lot, there’s only a few passes across the mountains and generally the smaller mountain
roads are closed/impassable
as soon as the snow arrives.
Lowland snow in the Seattle area is very rare (and driving in those conditions is not a great idea as the locals can’t drive in snow).
Some of the roads around Rainier and
the ski areas
are kept open, but chains/4wd
are required.
Otherwise you need to go east of the mountains.

its ever so slightly high...but it is a 6th gen VFR800, which is arguably one of the best bikes ever made.

I’d pay 2500 for that if it ran well. That’s a lot of miles but the bags and mounts are worth a good bit. If you don't like it, selling will be hard. VFRs are an odd market already and that has A LOT of miles.

Honestly your best bet would probably be doing I90 East or Highway 2, and just taking random exits once you’re in the mountains. Forest roads abound. They’ll all be snowy, at least once you hit a certain elevation.
You know I'm all for that. Would be a good last hurrah for the Miata

It’s gotta go. Especially after having it broken into again, it’s starting to be more of a liability than anything :/
